I have seen the place on a film about south UK I think, I remember seeing a volkswagon parked outside a pub and then the guy comes out and his car is floating down the road at hightide, he parked too close to the waterline.:-)
I think you may betalking about the flash flood in Boscastle, Cornwall about 18 months ago. There was spectacular footage just as you describe. They're just about getting back to normal now.

This is not an everyday occurrence. When the same thing happened inLynton & Lynmouth, Devon 45-odd years ago, hundreds were killed and the villages demolished. This time, in a miracle, the village was demolished, and no-one was killed or seriously injured.

There are also various locations where you can drive on to the beach and be caught by the tide twice a day if you're not careful. This nearly happened to me when I got stuck in a soft patch of sand at Southport, Lancs about 20 years ago. Another motorist, a local, well-used to it, towed me out.

The worst is Morecambe Bay where 22 Chinese immigrant cockle-gatherers working for 'gangmasters' drowned in one incident recently. I'm quite sure you've plenty of places just as bad in Oz; you're a big country.

Yes we get fire, flood, cyclones, hailstorms and even earth quakes, I would think fire is our worst problem though
