This photo was taken in Khanh Hoa, a province in central Vietnam. The shore area is too shallow for boat to dock. For a nominal gratuity, these ladies can paddle you from your boat to dry-land.

amazing... coracles still in use! hard to steer, a lot of work to make any headway, but apparently they still serve a purpose. interesting pics!

Thanks Squirl,
So Coracle is what these small water-crafts are called. I only know by their Vietnamese name, "thung-chai". A quick research on the web shows that they can be traced back to the pre-Roman times on the British Isles. They were also used by Wellington during the British military campaigns in India. They can be easy built, light, portable and are still commercially used in Vietnam, India and Tibet.
