This pic has blown highlights(water/no filters yet)which is too bad,but I still don't have the heart to press ye olde delete button just yet

That's a nice spot you've got there. A polariser might damp down some of the glare off the water for you: but that's assuming you've got a thread to screw it onto, some digicam manufacturers don't seem to have got the point of that yet

The other alternative is to underexpose, and use photoshop's shadows/highlights tool to bring the darker areas back. However, sometimes though the water can be so bright that no amount of under-exposure will help much

John,I have a SLR camera so filters are an option.I'm curious,what kind of gear do you use for your wonderful river shots?

Kodak DX6490 compact digital camera.
4X Neutral density filter.
Circular polarising filter (adds about another 4x to the exposure, adjust as required to either cut down or allow through reflected light).
Tripod.

But the thing you need most of all.... luck :!:
