Taken from considerable distance with tele-conversion lens on my S5500 - lousy quality but the idea was there!

What kind of zoom did that give you in total? I like the composistion, and it looks good to me. Can't see much quality loss at this size either: what was the problem - camera shake? Can't be noise looking right into the sun surely?

John.

Hi John, used the Fuji 1.5x tele-conversion lens on the camera's 10x Zoom. As the crow flies I guess the crane was about 1.5kms away on the horizon. Can't really answer the question - used a tripod and just feel it could be better/sharper. I put it down to my lousy camera skills / bad light / distance. As always I'm open to advice!

Its a nice shot Steve, great to see other Saffas posting on this site. Try running the image through Neat Image or Noise Ninja, they will clean up the image quite a bit.

Quite a difference. Neat is a fantastic bit of software. I bought the version that come with a photoshop plugin.

Although this isn't a landscape photo, it was shot at ISO800, cleaned up using Neat.
