Some maps label this area as "absolute desert". How true.

Experimented with using the helicopter's window/porthole as a frame. External fuel tank visible. Only porthole we could open. The external tank acted as a (not too efficient) wind deflector.

Some post-processing. Cropped sides. PS "levels" on outside world elements. (excluded fuel tank from this).

Polarising filter on 17-85 lens.

Comments welcome...

Nice shot! The pol filter was certainly a big help here. Lovely colors considering the altitude.

Considering the difficulties you must have had trying to take this (how the heck do you avoid camera shake in a helicopter???), it looks good to me, I like the composition too

John.

Thank you for your comments - Fortunately the rear of the helicopter was configured for cargo (i.e no seats) so you couldstand in the middle of the cabin with your legs acting as 'vibration absorbers'. I also pushed the ISO on most of the shots taken from the helicopter to ensure high shutter speeds - and then of course the IS on the EFS 17-85 mm also helps...

Tullio

There are a couple more of these framed picson http:/andrewd.myphotoalbum.com.
