Default Lexar 40x CF Card vs. SmartMedia Card.

Recently I purchased Lexar 40x CF Card (6MB/Sec) and compared it with SmartMedia Card (Read: 3.5MB/sec; Write: 500KB-1MB/sec [variable]) for speed.

For my experiment I used 6-in-1 SanDisk USB-2 Card Reader attached to USB-2 port on my computer.

The results:

SmartMedia (121MBx76files) =>> Read = 0.59 sec/ Write = 4.23 sec;

Lexar 40x CF (121MBx76files) =>> Read = 1.01 sec / Write = 1.21 sec;

Look like the read speed for the absolute SmartMedia Card is the same as for the modern Lexar 40x CF Card.

The write speed improvement 3.5 times is a quite significant.

Lexar 40x CF Card has advantage with Write Accelerated Cameras (Mostly Pro Cameras).

I am wondering what is a real speed for Lexar 40x CF Card with non write accelerated cameras (like CoolPix-4300)?

Thank you.

That's not new.

When reading, my SandiskUltra CF is SLOWER then the 1/3 priced Kingston CF.
