Default formatting a picture card

I bought a 2 GB picture card to take video. I took some video on it and then put it in my card reader to download to computer. I got a message that it wasn't formatted and do I want to format now. I thought that might erase my videos, so I haven't done it yet. Will formatting the card now erase my video?

Yes. Don't format the card if the video can still be played on your camera. Instead of using a card reader, try connecting the camera directly to your computer and see if you can transfer the video that way.
