Default Help Please Finepix JZ 500 Memory Card

I just purchased a Fujifilm Finepix JZ 500, to use mainly for HD video recording. I also purchased a Panasonic Silver 8GB Class 4 memory card. On the box of the memory card, it says 60 minutes in HA Mode.

When I put the card in the camera, the camera says there is only 11 minutes recording time. That's a big difference to the stated 60 minutes!

Am I doing something wrong, for example should I format the memory card (I can't find a function on the camera to do that).

Any advise would be most appreciated.

Thank you

You'll see a Format choice in your Setup Menus. See page 77 for how to get to Setup:

I always format a memory card prior to every reuse. But, what you're seeing is probably normal For extended recording, since the camera can only record 2GB at a time (which would normally be somewhere around 11 minutes) before you have to press the shutter button to record another clip. That's because FAT32 (the File System used by most cameras) only allows a largest file size of 2GB.

Default To Jim

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the prompt reply...

So my understanding is why the camera shows 11 minutes is because of the fact it can only record 2gb at a time. After that, I need to start another clip.

Therefore, my 8gb memory card would in fact hold 11 x 4 minutes, or 44 minutes in total.

Thank you for clarifying this.
