Default I vote for 2GB...

... but that depends on the file size you get from your camera.

It all depends on
1. How often do you usually go between downloads? How many pictures do you take at a time?
2. How big are your files?
3. What camera do you have? some write faster than others. If you have a slow camera, a fast card won't help.
Here is a speed test for various CF cards on various DSLR's
I've had less than stellar performance on IBM Microdrives and Sandisk 128MB cards

Ok thank , im usually shooting pics at about 1200KB with my canon S1 IS. Transfering to a computer is no problem, i just want enough room so that i do not need to transfer very oftain. I'm not sure about what write speed my cameera has but i need a card that can keep up with action shooting.
-thanks, I will chec out that site

it is of course relative to the camera you are using, its pixel power, and the way you shoot.

today, in general, i would not waste time or money on anything below 512MB.

the new average in cameras today is 5MP. at highest jpg res at iso 100 you get approx 86 images. that isn't that many for my shooting style plus the cameras i have are at 5mp and higher.

i currently own:
2 Delkin pro 640MB cards 1 in my Minolta A1 and 1 on my wifes Oly C5050
2 2GB cards 1 Sandisk Ultra II 1 Lexar Pro 40x the Lexar is installed in a EOS1Ds which is used in RAW mode 80% of the time. the Sandisk will be installed in a 1Dm2 in about 6 months.
2 Lexar Pro 1GB cards as spares as needed.

sounds like a bunch but in reality using RAW its the equivelent of having about 15 rolls of film around
