i'm thinking of buying a genaric smartmedia and was wondering if anyone has had a problem with them? i heard somewhere that only a few company's actually make them, is this true and would the genarics be of the same quality as the brand name ones?

I've gotten a number of generics and they all work fine. Prices are good, too. About $39 for a 128 mb.

In theory generic SM (which is just memory, no driver architecture) should be ok so get the cheapest, some generics offer more warranty, but I'd still go with cheapest. Non of this applies to Compact Flash cards though. Watch out for the Olympus pano mode formatting - only on their cards - but there are hacks (sorry, workarounds)
