I have an Olympus SP-500 UZ.

I am wanting to buy a 1GB xd card.

Do I need type M or type H and what is the difference?

Olympus/Fuji claim the H type cards to be faster than the M type. We did not see any real performance improvement in the cameras we tried them in and only a small improvement in transfer speeds when used in a high speed USB 2.0 card reader. The xD-Picture card is a terribly slow I/O device and we keep hoping that Olympus and Fuji will dump it and go with the majority of other camera makers and use SD cards.
