here is a photo i took in fall 2007, i know itcan be better but how?......

i took this picture with my pentax *ist DL using the auto modes...(i have not ventured to manual yet)

Interesting shot... if I were out to re-shoot it, I would choose a smaller apperture (that means venturing over to the manual side) but would want a bit more of the front flower in focus. And I would play around a bit with the Point Of View - especially how it affects the placement of the back flower. Last I would punch it with a touch more light from a small reflector - even reflecting light upunder the petals for a bit more 'glow'. (if you don't have a standard reflector, a piece of white foamboard works wonders. Or even a piece of heavier paper.)

With a nice digital camera my advice is - take a pic in auto mode, then the same picture 2x in manual - experimenting with diff settings.... since it's digital you can always throw out shots you hate.

Keep on shooting - and experiment madly.

Try using "Macro Mode".
On your camera it'll be a little picture of a flower.
