I went for a hike after a very heavy rain last fall, the Aspen tree bark was more green that I have ever seen. As the day went on the bark started to dry out and it looked like thermometer with the tempture dropping, I could just watch the color of the bark change.

You may have a new career finding and photographing natural science. There have been some articles written about Aspen and how their bark prevents sun scald and controls core temperature but I haven't been able to find anything about this color change related to temperature. I'm going to ask a friend in the forest service about it--they have a botanist/arborist around here somewhere.
