Default Image Retreival Software- Current & New

Photo Rescue v6.14 and Advanced v6.14. i gave this program a try. i formatted using windows FAT. photographed a few things around to house about 15 shots. formatted again windows FAT. put it into my D7i again and it said no images. placed it into my reader and let photo rescue loose on it. it was like a bloodhound. it not only found and reproduced the 15 shots but actually found a total of 84 images. 69 were from a job i had done 2 months ago. this card had not used in a while so even though formatted the memory was not overwritten. so if you accidently erased a shot you needed or even worse formatted the card there is hope. current reg version is 6.14. new Forensics version (requires patiance and a good eye and a couple of cans of coke on ice. with this version you may, operative word is may, be able to rebuild some fragmented images to readability and or use. not for the faint of heart. version 6.14 as they put in the instructions for both if the program cannot fint it, most likely is no longer there. http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

Thanks for this info, sjms. I have been wracking my brains trying to find an old copy of the original Digital Image Recovery program (which the author used to offer as freeware). We can't afford the $40 for this right now, unfortunately. It's certainly something to keep in mind for the future, though!

Hi, again. I did find the freeware version of Digital Image Recovery. It was on a French site, but the program is in English. Since it says right in the help file that it is freeware and users are welcome to distribute it, I added it to my website: http://downloads.gardenwife.com

You'll also find several good recovery programs listed in our software download section for utilities:

Well.... even though this is a two year old post, since it was bumped back to the top again by the previous poster, I'll reply anyway.

You'll see the dowload link inthe first message in this German Forum toDigital Image Recovery:

http://www.foto-erhardt.de/foto-forum/viewtopic.php?t=2690

It's a .zip file, so you'll need Winzip to extract the installation file. If you don't have it already, you can download a working eval version of Winzip from here:

http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm

The program will let you select English as a language. As long as your camera appears as a removal drive; simply select the drive letter for your camera as the source drive, then select a folder on your PC as the destination (you'll see a browse button to select a folder).

Leave all other settings as default and click the Start Button. It will then search the memory card and save all of the recovered files to the folder you selected on your PC's hard drive. If you leave the prefix for the files as the default, your images will be saved as image1.jpg, image2.jpg, etc.

It won't hurt anything as long as your destination folder is on your PC, since it's only reading from the card (not writing to it)

Note that it does not support RAW files (.crw, .nef, .mrw, etc.). However, for JPEG's or TIFF's it works fine (and it's free).
