Hi folks,

I was reading the Denver Post this morning and came across this interesting new camera.

This little "wrist" camera called appropriately the "Hero" is really cool. I emailed the company and received a prompt answer to my questions.

Essentially, it's a 3 megapixel camera with a very ruggedized body. It has a fixed 48mm equivalent lens, uses secure digital up to 2 gigabytes, has an F2.8 lens and ISO 100.

It has an amazing video capability shooting 58 minutes of VGA 640x480 resolution movies, isoptically stabilized and can hold over 5,000 images on a 2 gig secure digital card.

It's waterproof and usable to depths of 100 feet. It doesn't have a flash, but I've used my own 2 megapixel Olympus C2000Z without flash using my dive light and getting decent results down to about 40 feet so would be effective if not ideal for a dive camera for someone on a budget.

It is set up with a wrist mount like a wrist watch so it would be with you at all times and prevent that frequentproblem of having a shot but needing to quickly search around in your backpack then missing the opportunity. There are also alternative mounts and other's in development such as for a helmet. It can be mounted on a bicycle or mortorcycle, etc., and seems to have sufficiently fast focus to get action shots.

Lots of great features - see it at:

Looks like a winner to me - it's on my list for birthday or Christmas..

What is the frame rate (30 fps?) and file format (M-JPEG? MPEG4?) of the video? I found no details on their web site.

Interesting, better than chancing your expensive gear.

A bit more info here:

Tip: If you buy it, go to a dealer, don't buy it direct.
