Did a search on Google for Foveon and didn't find much newer than references to the Sigma S10. Is there going to be a splash one of these days, or has it gone the way of Kodak's Disk camera?

According to some reports, there were several working samples of the Polaroid x530 (using a Foveon sensor) at Photokina.

Here is a press release on it (.pdf format):

Well, my wife just found a box full of film I didn't realize we had that needs processing (35mm, 110, disc, 126). I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to spend more than $25.00/15 exposures to process the disc film (with no guarantees that anything will come out, since it's been exposed for so long. ;-)

Nobody I've found so far except for http://www.rockymountainfilm.com is willing to process this film.

So, I guess you could say that the disc camera didn't exactly win any popularity contests.

That link (http://www.pdcameras.com/usa/news/prx530ph.pdf) is pretty much the kind of stuff I could find about the foveon. The charactoristic quote is:
Quote:
Product will be available at retail in November.
Pitty they didn't specify the year.

It looks like it's in the price search engines now (but, nobody shows it as in stock yet).

Polaroid approached us a few weeks ago to do a private review of the X530 to determine its market potential so I guess this should tell us that it is now unclear if they'll even make them in any quantity.

Foveon had potential, but considering that
Canon and Nikon don't seem interested, it
may not have enough potential to last.
I don't know if they have yet solved the
noise problems in a satisfactory way.

I hope they do, though.

It really does seem like it could be a great breakthrough... If they ever get that and the resolution problem licked.

What are the noise and resolution problems I see referred to here?

The noise problem is the same as for any high concentration
sensor, but directed in up and down direction. They were
presumably having problems making higher resolution cameras
due to the increased complexity.

For 6mp camera they actually had 3 photosites per pixel. This
led to the increased density of the sensor and the problems.

If they could lick those two probs they would have a much
higher resolution per mp than the competitors.
