I'm new to the dye sub printer world and am researching a purchase. BUT I would like matte finish instead of glossy. Is this generally an option for ALL dye printers or just on those manufacturers that sell matte photo paper for this type of printer?

Any help/feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I bought a Kodak Pro 1400 that had the option to buy a matte kit and a glossy kit. The glossy prints were great and nearly indestructable, but I didnt' care for the matte prints. I am guessing that any dye sub that goes the matte route will use something similar to Kodak. It prints the photo on regualr glossy paper then adds a coating to give it somewhat of a matte look. To me, it looked like a hazed finish. We ended up seeling ours after a few months because we just weren't happy with the matte. The glossy however are very very nice.

If matte is something you really want then I would look into inkjets or a pro photo finisher.
