(Hope I am putting this in the right forum section e.e)

Okay. So until recently, I've been using a different camera of the JVC brand. And I've switched over to a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480. I have the Sony Picture Package that came with it, but I can't get footage off of it to edit on the computer like I have been able to do in the past with my previous camera.

With my other camera and program (which isn't compatible with this Sony) I was able to stream directly onto the computer and save whatever portion of the tape onto the computer no problem. I can't do that with Picture Package. It hates me. e.e

In fact, I can't even get Picture Package to recognize the data on my tapes. (I'm not sure if not having the memory sick in at the time of recording would have any bearing on that, though.)

If anyone can tell me how I can get my footage onto my computer so I can play with it, that would super.

Because I am in desperate need of help.

Gutten Morgan,

I'm not sure what your other camera is but with the Sony, you are shooting DV video onto a MiniDV tape (at least I think it's a tape and not a DVD). Look on the camera for a Firewire port, sony calls it iLink or it may be called an IEEE1394. This is the way you get video off of the camera and onto a computer. Unfortunately, Picture Package does not work with the video from the camera so it is pretty much useless for this process. Depending on what operating system you have on your computer, you may have the ability to use something you already have. Windows XP has Windows Movie Maker which will do some of the basic stuff. If you want to get more in depth with editing, you should look into something a little more robust, like Adobe Premiere Elements or Ulead Video Studio.

As for getting the video onto the computer, you will need to get a Firewire cable, which can be found at most stores (are you in Germany? If so, MediaMarkt would have it). You will also need a firewire port on your computer (most already do, but you will have to check), if you need one, those can be purchased as well.

After it's all plugged in, just open the software you want to use and import the video in.

The process is actually more in depth, but if you've already worked with video from other cameras, it should be very similar.

Hope this helps.

Your camera is a Sony Camcorder (a video camera). This site is for digital still cameras, not video.

I suggest trying a camcorder site:

www.camcorderinfo dot com

to get you started.
