Default battery advice for a canon s50 please

battery help! im gonna get the canon s50. after the orginal lithium battery conks out and goes to battery heaven, am i ok to get a set or 2 of NiMH batteries and a decent charger? is canon tryin to scare me that i shouldn't do NiMH batteries and have to buy a lithium replacement. canon's info has confused me, tho i think this is the camera for us.

The S50 will not use any other battery type other than the battery that came with it (or third-party manufacturer that makes a suitable replacement like Energizer, etc) That is why they call it a proprietary battery. Also the original battery is rechargable, not one time use; you should get a couple of years worth of charge/discharge cycles out of it.
