I was interested in getting this used D80 but don't know what questions, if any, to ask of the current owner. Never owned a digital SLR, but looking to make the step up.

These are the details as I know 'em:

Asking price is $900
Supposedly less then 1000 shutters

Nikon D80 Body with Box and everything Included.. Battery, Strap, Charger, SD Card Reader, USB Cable, 4 Gig SD Card, All Manuals.
Nikkor Lens AF-S DX Zoom 18-55mm f/3.4-5.6G,
Nikkor Lens Af Zoom 70-300 f/4-5.6G,
52mm Wide Angle Lens with Macro High Definition 0.45x,
2x Telephoto Lens,
3 piece Filter kit.
Digital Camera cleaning kit.

Get it?
Don't get it?

Thx for reading.

This seems like a better deal to me, and it's new!

Nikon D80 Digital SLR "2" lens kit with 18 - 55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (Vibration Reduction) & Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR (Vibration Reduction) & DVD , USA Warranty

But the same D80 and lenses at Adorama, new, cost $782.

I think the current owner got burned by one of those on-line package deals, and is trying to sell it off to some other sucker so he can recover some of his losses.

Just look at the 2 lenses, the body, and the charger, battery etc. The other stuff (telephoto, cleaning kit, filters) is junk. the price isn't bad, but I wouldn't spend that much on a used DSLR that could be over 2 years old. As was mentioned, you could get a similiar kit for a lot less brand new with both lenses VR enabled. Or you could spend a little more and get a new D90. I don't think used DSLR's are good deals, unless you get a significant discount, in which case, you have to worry about condition.

Id advise against it based on a few reasons. One, there are better deals to be had with brand new equipment. Two, the condition could be very questionable. Lastly, I just sold my D80 to fund the purchase of a D300. If your willing to spend $900, which it seems like you are, go for the D90 . I dont think this will be a decision you will regret.
