I think the kind of media is significant if one already has CF devices and CF cards. You can just add the cost of a SM card to the purchase price. Or buy a better camera and use the memory you already have.

Olympus has always written code on both their SM and xD cards to disable the panorama mode if you use another brand card. So plan on paying for an Oly card if you want the pano mode to work.

SM is obsolete. You will never have any future use for the card. No model released in the past year or so uses SM as its only memory card type, and I donít think any cameras have been released recently that even use it along with other cards. It is a dead end card.

SM is a great format for cameras it was designed for, and these are generally up to about 3 Mpix. Above 3 Mpix you should be considering the high quality fine modes and possibly the occasional uncompressed shot or movie to justify your expense on the camera.

Your file sizes are likely to be about 2Mb+ and since SM max is 128Mb and you can easily shoot 100 pics at a time - other larger media sizes of 256Mb or 512Mb will soon be needed, as swapping SM cards mid shoot needs care! VOX
