Default Watermark

I noticed that almost every picture uploaded here has a name or some kind of mark at the bottom, and after i google'd it i found out it is called watermarking.

How is it done? Is there a free program (as i do not own a copy of photoshop) that is able to watermark my pictures?

Here's one :http://www.photo-freeware.net/watermark-v2.php

There are several others I have heard of as well. There have been discussions on this in the software and plugins forum here- just scroll down the page.

Here's another one:

You can also find lots of tutorials on using a free image editor like the GIMP to watermark your images. Just Google for Gimp and Watermark and you'll find some (and there are also plugins available for that purpose).

I found [SPAM REMOVED BY MODERATOR] on the internet, and it is very good for watermarking.

You can also watermark in Picasa or Faststone both free programs.
