PS is you want a quality flash, and decent power, the metz 44 AF-1 is a good option, not as many bells and whistle as the other flash, but it is a solid flash.

Metz are pretty good up firmware upgrades via usb port, so they stay pretty compatible with newer bodies.
Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.

As others have stated, the Canon T3 (1100D) and the Nikon D3200 are both great entry level DSLR's. However, if I had to make a choice between the two, I would not choose either one. I would go with the Nikon D5100. Due to Nikon's announcement of their new 24 megapixel D5200 which is the replacement for the D5100, the price for the D5100 has really dropped. The Nikon D5100 is an outstanding DSLR. It comes equipped with the same superb 16 megapixel sensor and processor as what is in the Nikon D7000. The Nikon D3200 actually has a disadvantage when compared to the Nikon D5100 or the Canon T3 due to it's extremely large 24 megapixel image sensor. Unless you plan on buying very expensive glass, image flaws will be more apparent with common affordable lenses. Also, you must ask yourself if you really need this much resolution. Are you going to print billboard size pictures ? And then there is the issue of the massive file sizes produced by this 24 megapixel sensor that must be stored on your card and computer. My advice is to go with the Nikon D5100 or better yet if your budget will allow, get the Nikon D7000.
