Default Less distortion

I am looking for a digicam that can take reasonably distortion
free picture without getting into SLR or spending over ....say more
than $1000. dollars, this is not for point and shoot kind of picture taking it rather indoor art object two dimentional and three dimentional picture taking , any idea which one ?.

One feature you want to look for is good tethered operation. That way you can hook it up to a coputer and very rapidly review your shots.

If $1,000 is your total buget, I'd strongly suggest that you figure on spending almost half of that on a tripod and head with heavy, almost cast iron legs. Something that if some clown trips over the cable between the camera and computer there is some chance your camera won't hit the artistic stone floor. A good tripod will outlast several cameras - if you buy a cheap one now, you will buy a good one later. Spend the money now.

How are the photos going to be used? Web only? 24x30 posters? Postcards?

How close to the original colors do you have to come? The only thing I know about color management is that it is far from trivial. Figure on spending some time reading, and money for printing experiments.
