Default flash card speeds

hi im just about to buy some flash cards for my nikon 5700.just for general picture taking holiday snaps looking around is there any differance in a 4x 12x speed flash card will they greats amount of differance or we just taking milli seconds? thank you

the speed of the card its its capability to xfr data (images) to and from its I/O port. today the biggest bottleneck is the cameras I/O setup. in the case of a 4x vs 12x i would definately get the higher speed card. a 4x card is capable of only 600KB/s and the output to card on a 5700 is higher then that. it being somewhere in the range of 800k or better /s so technically the 4x card is capable of slowing your cameras xfr operation down. also think of the future, cameras will improve.

1x= 150KB/s

I agree with sjms. Generally, we suggest not going beyond 12-16x or so. That is just a rough number, though, as some cameras can get some benefit out of faster cards but most can't.
