I will be taking lot of indoor photos at a dark setting. Not quit sure how much lighting will be present. Will be using a Canon S50 and need some advice on the setting since I am a beginner. I should make sure I know what I'm doing so I won't regret on the outcomes of the photoshots.

For the indoor and dull setting, do you recommend AUTO with flash? Or using another manual setting? Which one?

I think most of the time you would do fine with auto and flash. Leave the flash intensity at the default setting and tweak it if it isn't exactly what you want. Keep in mind that in dark settings the background will be dark if the subject is illuminated properly. No way around that unless you can get some bright light on the background.

In semi-bright conditions some people shoot in shutter priority with a high shutter speed to make sure there isn't blur from the ambient light. But the flash has to be fairly close to the subject or everything will be dark.

Shooting indoors without the flash is usually problematic. Both subject motion and camera shake will cause blur. A tripod works fine for static subjects. You need very bright indoor light to handhold.
