I downloaded the canon s40 software onto an XP platform. However, after much wrangling I realized it was not completing the installation because it did not have a digital signature for XP. I also tried downloading more current software from Canon, but had little success there.

I purchased a CF USB reader from Kodak. It's missing the digital signature too.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? It looks like I could over ride the computer's objections to the missing digital signature, but be taking some risk at the same time. I prefer to find a solution acceptable to XP.

Digital Signatures are basically programs that have been given Microsoft's blessing that it will work with the OS...basically that company has gone to MS and given a "donation" and MS gives the signature code.

Not having a proper digital signature won't hurt your computer. These are legit programs from legit companies...they just haven't made the "donation" to get MS's blessing. Just did a search on Google and found a good response from Agfa when installing their software on XP when the digital signature warning comes up:

"You have the choice to continue or stop the installation. Click on the "Continue Anyway" button, the installation will not harm or destabilize your system."

Look at it this way...if you want to use the hardware you bought you have to use the included software...the fact that they haven't given MS a "donation" shouldn't affect your judgement.
