I used to have the G3, but upgraded to the G6. Here is the rundown -

If you are going to shoot the best quality of pics the camera can take in JPG format, divide the MB size of the memory card by 2 and that is roughly how many shots you will get. So you can expect to get about 16 shots from the included 32MB card.

To use a lens filter, you will need to get the conversion lensadapter that fits the G3/G5. I think it is the LA-DC58B model. You will notice on your G5 that the ring around the lens comes off. You take this ring off and attach the lens adapter in it's place. Then you can attach 58mm filters, tele converter lens, and wide angle lens.

As far as the lens cap falling off. It really isn't that big of a deal. It is a bit loose though. You could probably just stick a dab of sylicone on the inside rim of the cap itself. This would help it grip better to the camera.

Battery life on the G3 was great. I took it on a week long camping trip in Glacier NP last summer. Did a full charge before I left and got over 400 pics before it died. I usually don't use the LCD screen though. This saves battery life.

I also use a USB 2.0 CF card reader. I don't like hooking up the camera to the PC and using the Canon software.

Hope this helps a bit.
