Default A40 exposure in dimly lit room ...

Have a new A40 - just got it. taking portait with subject in middle of dimly lit room. auto gives very dark room background but subject is sharp. slow sync flash gives more correct balance of lighting of subject and room but subject is not as crisp. any suggestions?

Your choices are: light up the background with room lighting or a slave flash, or put your camera on a tripod for the slow sync (or both). Also you can try a higher ISO setting, but you'll get more "noise" in your picture and they'll be a bit less sharp.
