find out the cost of the PCMCIA reader for the XD. Then, compare it to the cost of a PCMCIA adapter for CF cards. You'll see another reason why I like CF.

But no matter what you have, get a reader for each machine you will load pics onto. For me, that is a USB one for the desktop and a PCMCIA one for the notebook. I don't need any softwre wit hthe camera, and I don't ever need to mess around with hooking the camera up to either machine. I don't even need the camera. Just the memory card.

If you have multiple cameras with different card types, there are adapters that read multiple cards and mount them as sperate disk drives, all at the same time. A lot more handy than hooking up several cameras to a computer.
