If you use a MACRO lens to take a photo that isn't macro does it affect the DOF etc??

ie if you have a macro zoom lens, and use it to take a portrait do the dynamics that qualify the lens as a macro come into play and affect the way the portrait looks? Or a landscape etc???

Not in my experience. All that the macro facility does is allows the lens to focus much closer than a standard lens. When used at more normal distances it behaves exactly the same as any other lens. The limited depth of field in macro photography results from the close focusing distances.
