I'm new to this -- sorry. When I take pictures on my new D-Rebel, they look fine on the LCD viewer, but come out very dark (and look very different) once downloaded onto computer with Canon EOS Digital Solutions Software (zoombrower ex). Is that normal? Is there an easy fix? I would have expected the image to look BETTER on the computer without my need to start playing with contrast/brightness, etc.

Am I doing something wrong?

The LCDs on cameras can often be a bit bright, this helps when viewing them in bright conditions. From what you describe though it sounds as if your monitor is not correctly set up. If you have Photoshop you should be able to use the Adobe Gamma tool. If not there is useful information here http://www.photoscientia.co.uk/Gamma.htm

You can adjust the brightness on your camera LCD.

I agree with Nagasaki, that you should get your computer setup correctly. Once you've done that I would adjust the brightness on your LCD to match. You won't be able to get it perfect, but you can adjust it some so that will help.
