Default Good Snapshot Digi with 8.5 x 11 capability

My 17 year old Nikon N2000 finaly shot its last pic (the shutter release quit) and I'm looking at replacing it with a digicam. I did use a 70 - 200 zoom and a 28 wide angle, but almost all of my pix were with the standard 50. We want to be able to create a clean 8.5 x 11 enlargement, so that lets out anything less than a 3 MP.
The cameras I seen with generally good reviews are the Canon S45/S30, Sony P7/P9, Nikon 3500/4500 Minolta F300 and Konica KD400Z. When we do print them out, we'll be using a Canon i550 printer. I admit I'm prejudice towards the Nikon because of past experience with the N2000 and the E class. So, any suggestions?

if you value manual setting choices, the olympus camedia 3000 and 4000 series are nothing short of brilliant in their level.
I couldn't help you with your list though - havent tried them.

I would suggest the Nikon 4500. If you want to spend a little more and get 8 times zoom do the Nikon 5700.

Good Luck !

One of the dirty secrets of digital is that you have to do your own "darkroom" work with a photo editor. So I suggest that you get some of your pictures scanned and learn how to use a photo editor. When you have figured that out, you will know more about what you want in a camera, you will be ready to use it, and the price will have come down.

Unless you are going to spend enough to get a digital SLR, don't let your bias for Nikon influence your digital choice. Consumer digicams are altogether different beasts than film SLRs. Nikon does make good digcams, but so do many others.
