Default Low-price 2MP digicams

Hi all,
I'm not quite new, but I am REALLY new to photography, let alone digital photography. I am a software developer, so I can work with computers and electronics, but have totally no knowledge on photography.
Still, I would like to buy a low-cost, no-nonsense digital camera for these reasons:
* I like to point, click and shoot
* I REALLY like the idea I can choose which pics to keep right away and which one to delete (and hence not to pay for developing them)
* I don't think that if I DID have a full-featured camera, I'ld be using all those features ...
I am looking at models like HP PhotoSmart 320 and 620, Nikon Coolpix 2000,... All 2MP models at 250 to 300. But there are, even in this segment of the market, so many choices. Can anyone give me buyersadvice or userexperience with one of these entry-level camera's? I really don't want to spend much more, because I'll also buy a 64 MB flashmemory and probably some extra batterypacks.
Thanks to all the experts here! What a great site! Glad I found this one!

My friend (next door) just bought a Nikon 775. I think it's very good.

Look at the Olympus D520 or D550. Very good optics. Remember you want optical zoom and do not worry about digital zoom.

Fuji and Kodak offer great camera in this configuration. Look at the Fuji 2650 and Kodak DX3600. Both are well reviewed by Steve.
