Default Need help choosing a cam. Am I missing something?

I have narrowed my choices for a new (and first) digital camera. Canon S200, Canon A40 or Fuji A303. While looking at the sample pics on Steve's site, the Fuji (which is the only 3MP cam I am looking at) seems to take the worst pictures with terrible grain. The other 2 (Canon's) seem to blow it away quality wise. Am I missing some digital-picture-taking-concept here?

Any help would be appreciated!

I looked at the pictures and you are right about the picís. I have two Fuji cameras, a 2600 and an S602 both take better quality pics than what Iím seeing on Steveís 303 test. I also looked at the 2600 and my 2600 does a better job as well. Not sure why but the Canonís do look better.

A bigger sensor does not necessarily equate to a better sensor. There are many people (including professional reviewers) that think a Canon S30 has a better sensor than an S40. The A40 has a couple of quality control problems that may affect you (both focus /sharpness related). The Fuji 2600/2650 are poor low light cameras (1/2 sec min shutter speed and no focus-assist). The Oly 550 can have color fringing issues. See the imaging-resource.com test photos (outdoor portraits at the top of images). Seems nothing is "perfect". You pay your money after you've chosen which problem(s) affect you the least. Note: the imaging-resource Web site seems to be the most critical, if you're looking for perfection, or as near to it as you can get.
