As I see it, all things being equal and you stick with today's mainstream off the shelf camcorders and digital cameras at a reasonable price ... no, a digital still from a digital still camera is generally far better than from a camcorder when in similar price categories.

Today, generally, a still camera takes far better stills (although it may do somelow qualityvideo) and a camcorder takes far better video (although it may do some low-megapixel photos -- and that may be adequate for you if all you ever want are uncropped, unedited4x5 prints).

Nonetheless, there are a few models of expensive cameras availablethat do both almost equally well, often sporting two lenses and two sensors, but it will probably bea fewyears before a manufacturer offers a single reasonably priced camera that has all the digital still features and resolution most people desire, along with outstanding video (or vice versa).

Hey, why should I sell one camera when I can make twice the money by selling two, one for excellent stills and one fore excellent video! IMHO!
