Default help for an advanced amateur?

Background: Somewhat advanced amateur, finally getting rid of my Canon AE-1 and AT-1 (yes!, AT-1) -- my back and shoulders will thank me, brand new to digital but know I need to read the manual and learn. Looking for something advanced enough that will last (just realized I bought the AE-1 and AT-1 over 20 yrs ago). Want as much of the best features as available. $$$ not much of a factor as long as itís worth the expense.

Here is what Iíve been looking at

Canon EOS-10D Digital SLR
Fujifilm FinePix S1
Fujifilm FinePix S602 Zoom
Nikon Coolpix 5700
Olympus C-5050 Zoom
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717

Any thoughts, comments, or smart remarks?? Thanks for any input.

Depends if you are going DSLR or not.

If not the Nikon 5700 would be my first choice, great enthusiast's camera with big juicy zoom.

Can't help with DSLR, don't follow them, can't afford them, have no use for them.

I can't recommend the Canon 10D enough. Coming from SLR film you would never be happy with anything other than a digital SLR believe me. You picked a good time too with the new 10D being sold for $1499 it's still pricey compared to film but lightyears from the $10,000+ that we paid for dSLRs only 2-3 years ago and more than double the resolution of those cameras too. The 10D is a great camera to start with.

I'd also like to add to Steves comments by saying that if you already have canon lenses from you old slrs, it would also be very cost effective and easier to justify the cost of a new camera if you buy the 10d.
