Default Can i copy VHS to DVD

I would like to copy my leagle paid for, commercial copy protected VHS tapes to DVD-R.
I have a DVR, but get the copy protected message. I fully understand, and respect, the protection laws and making illeagel copies, but this is not the case, i just want to protect my big library. Is there any inexpensive device I can to apply to the decision of this problem?

I'm guessing ANY copy- even for yourself- is illegal....
Good luck with anyone offering you a solution...

There are products on the market which will record to DVD from anything which has composite video outputs. Usually priced under $100. Don't have a link handy, though. I have seen such things at many electronics outlets, possibly at Wal-Mart.
AFAIK, fair use policy in US copyright law allows you to create a backup copy for your own use. In order to be completely in compliance, though, you have to keep the original.

I have actually used and own the product that the link was given for. It works very well between the RCA outputs of my VCR and my laptop. You do have to do it in real time so allow plenty of time to do this project. I used the set-up to record a lot of old TV shows I had recorded to VHS over to DVDs discs in 2009-010. Took me a year to get 36 "6 hour" tapes finished since it all had to be done in real time.

I have been using the Roxio product for the past year:
(Roxio Easy VHS to DVD)
It also bypassed the protection when I tested
some recording from the satellite TV decoder too
