I'm looking to buy my first Nikon DSLR, and probably looking between the d50 and d70s. It seems as though I can get the d70s kit with the 18-70 lens for under $900. Similarly, if I were to opt for the d50 base only plus the 18-70 lens, it would end up being roughly the same price. Does anyone have any thoughts about these two options? Are there advantages toboth cameras? From what I've seen and heard, the 18-70 lens is a step up from the standard 18-55 lens and is probably the way I would want to go. Unless I'm convinced otherwise, I will probably not go the d80 route with its additional cost. Thanks.

The D70s is slightly more feature rich than the D50. Check the side by side comparisons on websites such as http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebyside.asp for details.

I chose the D70s because the built-it flash can control the SB-600 Speedlight wirelessly.

I also have the 18-70mm kit lens and I'm very pleased with the results.
