I recently purchased the Nikon d200. I was wondering about the lack of the "automatic mode". Is there a work around to get decent pictures that would be like the "automatic mode"? Thank you. John

P mode (program) with flexi-program option is fairly automatic.

IMHO if you understand photography and the effects of aperture and shutter speed on the final image automatic mode is a complete waste of time. P gives the same settings as auto would but with the ability for the photographer to take control and shift the aperture/shutter speed combination by turning the rear command dial.

Anythin other than M (manual) is pretty much automatic. I most often shoot in A (apeture priority mode) so I can control the depth of field. Once I choose my apeture it is automatic from there on. I love my D200.
