Hi I just picked up a D200 with a AF-S DX 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 G IF-ED lens,I upgraded from a CoolPix 5000 ...... Anyways can I use my old SB-50DX flash with this new D200 ??? until I save up to get the SB-800, also is there any functions I will not be able to perform with this flash ?

Hi Soupnazi,

Read on page 178 of your D200 manual. It seams your SB-50DX can only be used in Manual mode. TTL will not work on the D200 with the SB-50DX. According to the manual if you set the SB-50DX to TTL the camera shutter-release button will lock and no photo can be taken.

When you purchase a flash I suggest you pay a little more and get the SB-800, I have both the 600 & the 800 and I'm telling you that the 800 is far superior to the 600. You get exactly what you pay for when it comes to the two flashes.
