Just received my new D300 & my indoor 85mm f/1.8 should arrive today
(gymnastics). Need to get a card, protective uv lens, and education. I am taking a class next summer, but till then what basics should get me off and running. I have lived on this site reading daily. I wish they would include a CD for us visual learners.

Congrats. Note that you posted this in the forum for Nikon point and shoot models. So, I've moved it down to our Nikon dSLR forum for you.

I just used my new D90 with the 85/1.8 to shoot indoor equestrian action. Your lighting will probably be more consistant than mine was. I listed the settings I used, in the first post of the following thread. They may be a good starting-off point for you.
See Dr. Cesar Parra Dressage Clinic, Sept. 15-16 at Chimney Hill Farm You might also browse the Sports & Action Photos for Basketball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics threads to see what they used.
