The D300s will do 7fps without the grip. The older D300 was slower (without hacks or a grip).

The AF performance is also improved on the D300s versus D300, as the D300 AF can be a bit sluggish, depending on the mode you're using (at least with the original firmware), despite having 51 AF points.

The newer generation "s" models have improvements.

But, you're not going to get the capability of a D3 or D3s with a D300 or D300s *if* you really need it.
