Default Oreo Cookie Ice Cream Birthday Cake

Following the theme of posting pictures . . . here is one that I took shortly after I got my Nikon D5100. I only had the kit lens so I was experimenting at iso6400 and had the lens at its widest to get at least f3.5.

I enjoy the challenge of shooting low light without flash and trying to capture the moment.

If you look closely, you can see the orange glow of the 1st candle she's blown out, and the smoke drifting of the second candle that she's in the middle of blowing out.

Thank you! Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Sorry if my pictures are always of my girls, but that's really why I have the camera. Its to capture moments like this. But having the camera, I'm getting pulled in learning stuff about photography, so I figure why not apply this stuff to my snaps? At the end of the day, maybe I can be putting better snaps in the digital photo album?

Take care,
Glen
