Are the images shot with an SLR a hundred times better then those taken with a Brownie?

You don't buy an expensive camera because it takes better pictures. I realise that obviously a 5 MEG camera will take "better" pictures then a 1 meg camera - But all things being equal as far as quality of sensor, an expensive camera will not take a better picture then one costing a fifith of its price.

These "professional" camera are designed for use in difficult conditions, can take more abuse, have more flexible controls to quickly change settings in changing situations.

Before people reply about the quality of sensors etc, I doubt very much if the sensor on the D70 is inferior to that of the D1x. Nor will the pictures be better. But if you're out on the beach in winter shooting snow Geese and want a picture of a Raven, I can be more flexible then with a D70. And perhaps (I'm not that familiar with how tough a D70 is) if the rain and sleet is coming down, I wont worry about this environment whereas a D7o owner might have to pack it in.

I agree with DBB the D1X is built to take rough everday use I doubt the D-70 would last, the X is based on a magnesium frame the d-70 not. Plus remote Threads in shutter button on the X , D-70 not.. and other features also..
