I know at the very best it won't have full iTTL but will it have TTL at all?

I'm not sure about that specific model flash unit, but I'd be more worried about trigger voltage than TTL compatibility. The former could potentially permanently damage your camera while the latter merely presents a metering challenge.

I recently asked Nikon the same question and they couldn't answer if the 636af would work. However, they gave me the following flash spec for the D70:

- Negative flash voltage could damage the D70
- Voltage over 250V could damage the D70

My 636af manual (still have it!!) didn't specify the voltage, so I'm waiting for Vivitar to reply.

The Nikon rep recommended me to check the Nokia forums on the Internet. Pretty good service. :-)

Members at other forums I've checked (will not give them free ads here) said that they didn├Ąt get the 636 to work with the D70. Maybe a SB800 is the best solution.
