I don't agree.
the Nikkor 18-70/f3.5-4.5 IF DX is one nice wide-angle zoom lens which gives you an equivalent focal lenght of 27-105mm.
It seems that you're judging lenses on their focal lenght and not on the quality.

I got the D70 with a 28-80mm kit lens and I'm still using it, although it should be crap. and it still is a decent lens. on the other hand, the 18-70 is much nicer.
