I am planning to buy the D50 today. I enjoy nature photography a lot so need a tele. Keep hearing lots about the Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6APO DG Macro for a start. I was told this will do a really good job for the price. Agree with this or...any other suggestions? Please include the f# with your suggestion...

Thank you

If you browse through past posts here, you'll see that that Sigma is a favorite here, mostly for it's price and macro capalibility. I have the Nikon 70-300G and happy with it, especially since I got it for virtually free with my package. If I have to buy it separate, I probably would have bought that Sigma or the Nikon 55-200.

You didn't mention, but I assume you're also getting a kit lens with the D50, hopefully the 18-55, not the 28-90.

The 50mm F/1.8 is a good indoor lens, especially on places are events where you can't use the fill-flash, like ballgames, wrestling, parties, museum, etc. That being said, you may consider getting an external flash before getting this lens.

Good Luck!
