Hi Gang - After much research here and elsewhere - I settled on the refurb cameta D50 pkg with 18 - 55 and 55 - 200 Nikkor lenses. The auction ran about $650. It had 42 shutter clicks and appeared to be new - nary a blemish. I bought a 2 gig Ultra II SD card online also for $70. It will hold around 530 high res jpgs.

This is my first dslr and my impressions are very positive so far. I'm still learning the post processing tools, so bear with me.

In general I'm a lousy photographer. The camera helps compensate. Here are few shots....

200mm, 1/1250, F9

1/30, f5.6 no flash 55mm

1/500 f4 55mm flash

1/250 f8, 55mm

I like this shot - humidty near 99%, sultry morning and very cool boat - I didn't take my 55 - 200 that day, so what you see is radically cropped. And yet the mp count is such that cropping still yielded a nice shot - Here's both for comparison:

cropped, sharpened, sepia. If you get rid of the radar unit, the shot could be 50 years ago
