In considering a Nikon D50 with a kit lens, I see two kits being sold, most common is with aNikor18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX. Ritz is also selling a kit with a Nikor 28-80MM F3.5-4.5G Zoom Lens for $599 and the kit with 18-55mm lens is $699. Focal length range aside, which of the two lenses is better in terms of image quality? Since the 18-55 has the ED....DX designation would that mean it is the better lens? I've read reviews that say the 18-55mm lens isn'tthat great. Thanks.

Nikor 28-80MM F3.5-4.5G Zoom..... is a great buget / Quite good opticslense.

I have added this to my collection. It's a crisp clear faily fast lense. Light weight, cheap price.

I have found this lense to deliver super crisp clear shots at 2 feet, max zoom.Great details. I'll post a pic called "details" look for it in the gallery

I'm using a D80.

The advantage is the difference between 18mm and 28mm on the wide end. A huge difference. Also the 18-55 has ED glass and a little faster focusing. The 18-55 is reportedly as good or better than the 18-70 dx on the wide end. I've never owned one but I had the 18-70 and it was very good. You may try getting the d50 body and a used 18-55(?$) or 18-70($175-225). You might try going to a photo store and see what the 18-28mm difference is to you.
